Are You an International Student Seeking 就业?

 

一个好消息! 国际学生 are eligible to work while studying in the United States. In order to obtain a social security number for work, an international student:

  • Must complete at least one semester before applying for a job position
  • Be registered in 12 units per semester
  • Work part-time- up to 20 hours per week
  • Work at the main campus where they are studying
  • Can not apply for 联邦工作研究
  • Must find a department willing to hire students with an F1 Visa

 

How to Begin Your Job 搜索

评估: Although this step is not mandatory, we encourage all students to complete one of the 职业评估 offered on campus - the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) or the Strong Interest Inventory (SII). Interpretation of an assessment will help guide you on what type of job position will suit you best.

满足:  Schedule an appointment with the 职业中心 to receive guidance and discuss internship options and procedures.

网络:  Let people know you are looking for a job position. 

研究:  Explore on-campus job opportunities with 握手 (我们的在线招聘板). Do research on the department that interests you the most.

学习:  Find out as much as you can about the department you would like to apply to by contacting other students, 校友, or employees who have worked there.

准备:  Create or update your resume and cover letter, obtain feedback from 职业中心 and schedule a mock interview.

应用:  Complete the job application then submit your resume and cover letter to the contact person for the position.

Follow-Thru:  If necessary, follow up at an appropriate time via 电子邮件 or telephone call.

Interested in an Internship?

在你被录用之后

An International Student must obtain the following before they can start working:

  • An authorization letter to work. This may be obtained from the International Student Advisor. 
  • A Social Security number (this process may take several weeks).
